My Kids and I Learned Everything We Know from “Schoolhouse Rock”|for iVillage
All together now: “Conjunction junction, what’s your function? Hooking up words and phrases, and clauses.” I bet you remember more than you think. I’m actually wondering if Schoolhouse Rock is the equivalent of homeschooling because, I must confess, much of what I know came from watching it.
Do you know the rule of multiplying nines, the preamble to the Declaration of Independence or how a bill becomes a law? I do, and now, so do my children… MORE

You’re lucky society has advanced so much since the 50s and60s. The Howdy Doody show left a lot to be desired educationally.

Dude, I love this stuff. I got some pirated-really-bad-quality-burn-up-my-computer-cdroms-from-a-cereal-box of Schoolhouse Rock and man, my kids loved them, when they weren’t freezing or the sound wasn’t coming through like a Michael Jackson record played backwards…
I must buy them. I homeschool and honestly, I need a break…

WOW they are a trip down memory lane. Even now I can hear them playing in my head (will I ever get them out again). I also got these for my kiddos. I did get a couple of weird glances from the 6 year old as I was singing along to them. She was amazed that I knew all the words to these ‘new’ cartoons. I tried to explain that these were around when mommy was a little girl. She just looked at me with her eyes opened as wide as she could get them and said, I did not know they had TVs when you were a little kid. Now I will admit I am an older than average mom, but not that much older. So bring on the tunes and lets all learn(or relearn) something new.

I love school house rock! I totally forgot about them… there’s this song about a bill… I remember it from the days in government class! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
